What inspired you to combine aviation and watchmaking to create Bell & Ross? Was there a key moment when you knew this was the path for you?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: The combination of aviation and watchmaking was a natural fit for us from the start, as both worlds share a deep commitment to precision, reliability and functionality. My interest in watchmaking was personal \u2013 I have always had a passion for watches, which began with a small collection of antique watches left by my grandfather. When we started Bell & Ross, we instinctively turned to military aviation, as it perfectly aligned with our idea of the \u201cideal\u201d watch: an instrument built for a very specific purpose. A key moment came when we realized that aviation, and military aviation in particular, has a rich history of using watches as essential tools. We found inspiration in the role of pilots, who relied on their watches for both navigation and timekeeping during critical missions. This historical connection led us to focus on aviation as a primary design influence. What really solidified this path was when we attended the 1994 Basel Watch Fair<\/strong> and noticed that the market was moving towards modern, colorful designs. While others were focused on trends, we knew we wanted to create something rooted in the precise, utilitarian world of aviation \u2013 a design philosophy that emphasizes function over form. This was our defining moment and set us on a course we have followed ever since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did the idea for BR-01 come about? How long did the process take from the initial concept to the finished product?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: BR-01<\/strong> was inspired by a simple yet ambitious idea: take the cockpit instrument panel and distill its essence into a wristwatch. We wanted something that not only looked different, but also communicated a purposeful design. The square case, oversized numerals and minimalist layout reflect this philosophy. From the first sketches to production, the process took almost two years<\/strong>. Every detail was meticulously crafted to ensure that it wasn't just a bold, statement <\/em>piece, but also a functional tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you remember when you sold your first watch? How did it feel?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: Absolutely! It was exciting and humbling. There is a unique satisfaction in seeing an idea materialize into something that people admire and want to own. That first sale confirmed our belief that there is room for innovation in watchmaking and space for us and our special DNA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBell & Ross is known for its bold, square cases, a direct nod to aviation instruments, which are predominantly square for practical reasons. This direction was bold yes, but it was also authentic to the brand\u2019s DNA. For us, it\u2019s not just about defying trends, but about staying true to the inspiration.\u201d \u2013 Carlos Rosillo<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you envision the future of Bell & Ross? Are there any new directions or technologies you are excited to explore?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: The future of Bell & Ross is to strengthen our fundamental pillars while continuing to evolve. We are committed to expanding our international presence, while maintaining the legacy of our iconic collections such as BR-03<\/strong> and our best-selling products like BR-05<\/strong>, ensuring that we continue to meet our customers' expectations. Since 2016, with the introduction of BR-X1 Chronographe Tourbillon Sapphire<\/strong>, we are also expanding our Haute Horlogerie collection, combining prestigious complications, technical performance and our signature design codes. In 2024, we intend to take another step forward by increasing the number of watches produced. A key highlight in 2024 will be the use of ceramic in the BR-05 collection, alongside our new campaign \u201cBlack is the New Black\u201d, which reflects both our ongoing commitment to innovation and our design philosophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: Looking ahead to 2025, we will continue to push the boundaries of creativity and material selection. We are excited to explore new materials and technological advances just as we did in 2024, maintaining a balance between craftsmanship, performance and aesthetic appeal. Our goal is to offer watches that not only meet the demands of the modern world, but also inspire and challenge traditional watchmaking conventions, while maintaining the unique essence of our brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For someone who has never owned a Bell & Ross watch, what would you say is the essence of the brand that they should understand?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: The essence of Bell & Ross is summed up in three words: Functionality, Readability, Accuracy\/Reliability<\/strong>. Every design choice we make is guided by these principles. Our watches are not just timekeepers; they are instruments made for professionals and enthusiasts who demand the best in performance and design. If you value precision, craftsmanship and bold aesthetics, you'll find a kindred spirit at Bell & Ross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What would most people be surprised to learn about the watchmaking process, especially when it comes to making a Bell & Ross watch?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: One surprising aspect of the watchmaking process is how much time it takes to perfect every detail, especially when it comes to color selection and prototyping. Bruno Belamich<\/strong>, our creative director, has a very clear vision for each watch and every element down to the smallest detail, and it must be aligned with that vision. This means we often go through multiple prototypes, testing different color combinations, finishes, and materials to ensure they work together seamlessly. Every nuance must be in harmony with the materials, design, and purpose of the watch. The back-and-forth process can stretch over months or even a year, but it is this dedication to perfection that ensures that the final product is not only functional, but also a true reflection of our brand standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is something most people don't know about you that might surprise them?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: When I was younger, I was an avid stamp collector. There is an incredible variety of themes and collections within philately, from historical figures to unique geographical features. I loved how stamps could tell a story in such a small space, similar to our approach to watchmaking \u2013 where every detail, no matter how small, contributes to the bigger picture. That passion for collecting and appreciation for fine details has certainly influenced my approach to watch design. Like stamps, watch collections offer a world of diversity and depth, where each piece has its own story and significance. Today, I enjoy collecting beautiful and unique watches, each representing a different era, craft or design philosophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who would you like to enjoy a cigar with?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: If there was anyone I could enjoy a cigar with, it would be my father and grandfather, both of whom have passed away. Cigars remind me of them and the moments we shared after meals, filled with conversation and connection. It would be an opportunity to honor their legacy, reflect, and relive those fond memories together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What things do you never leave the house without?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: Well of course, I never leave without a Bell & Ross watch. Depending on the day and the occasion, I might choose BR-05 made of steel<\/strong> for a more casual look, BR-05 Gold<\/strong> for something more refined or elegant and modern BR-05 Ceramic<\/strong> for modern day by day<\/em> look. For a lighter, more durable option, I'll wear BR-X5 made of titanium<\/strong>. Every material and design serves a purpose, allowing me to adapt my style to the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a cigar lover, what is it about cigars that you find so amazing?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: Cigars represent the perfect balance of craft, tradition and the senses. The process of selecting, cutting and lighting a cigar is almost meditative. It is about enjoying time, similar to the philosophy behind our watches. As far back as I can remember, my father and grandfather were cigar smokers. After a good meal I would often see them enjoying their cigars. It was a world I was already familiar with, with its own particular aroma, lifestyle and gestures that I was accustomed to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: During my studies, I took a wonderful trip to Mexico that deepened my enthusiasm for the world of cigars. I had the pleasure of meeting people with a deep knowledge of cigars, especially the practice of smoking, who shared their wisdom with me. I had the opportunity to enjoy cigars in great company, and over time I began to taste increasingly renowned cigars. This quickly became a habit and this cigar culture grew within me, largely thanks to that trip. This appreciation of cigars, like the creation of a fine watch, is based on craftsmanship and taking the time to enjoy every moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A perfect evening. Where, what cigar and with whom?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: I enjoy cigars from various regions, and I especially like Cuban cigars, but also those from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Partagas offers some exceptional cigars, like the Lusitania, but I'm always looking for new experiences, trying different cigars and brands. We even had cigars made in Nicaragua under the name Bell & Ross, which are some of my favorites because of their unique flavor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: My ideal cigar evening is spent in the countryside, outdoors, enjoying the peace and quiet. But I'm also happy to have cigar lounge<\/em> at home, where I can enjoy a cigar indoors in comfort. I love smoking cigars with friends, whether they're aficionados or not\u2014there's something special about sharing that experience. But I also appreciate the times when I smoke alone, enjoying the solitude and a good drink with my cigar, as I did recently after a family lunch with a Partagas Double Corona and a house cocktail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you were to design a Bell & Ross watch inspired by your love of cigars, what would it look like?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Rosillo: We already made such a piece in 2022 under the name BR-05 Chrono Edici\u00f3n Limitada<\/strong>. It is perfect. homage <\/em>The art of cigars. This watch encapsulates the rich world of cigar culture while remaining true to the Bell & Ross identity. Warm tobacco-inspired hues, with a sunny brown dial reminiscent of finely aged leaves, were chosen to reflect the elegance and craftsmanship shared by cigars and luxury watches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCigars are more than just a pleasure for me; they are an experience that connects to other aspects of life. We wanted to capture this in our BR-05 Chrono Edici\u00f3n Limitada, merging the worlds of cigars and watchmaking through a color scheme that represents the rich tones of a fine cigar.\u201d \u2013 Carlos Rosillo<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Limited to only 250 pieces and priced at 12,900 euros<\/strong>, this exclusive timepiece is a collector's dream, celebrating the shared art of watchmaking and cigars. It comes in a special humidor box, a nod to cigar lovers and their love of precision and tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
