Style Talk with Alessandro Squarzi: How to dress in winter, Fortela and vintage watches
Alessandro Squarzi is an Italian fashion entrepreneur, vintage clothing collector and influencer known in the international fashion community. Born in 1965 in Forlì, Italy, he began his career in the early 1990s as a salesperson in a store, later opening his own showroom and becoming a talent scout in the fashion industry.
He is best known as the founder and creative force behind Tricks, Italian heritage a brand that combines vintage military and work clothes.
Mr. Squarzi is also a recognized figure on street style scene, often photographed at fashion events around the world. His personal style and visual taste have made him a style icon on social media and fashion platforms, and his passion for vintage clothing, classic cars and motorcycles, along with his ability to spot and develop fashion trends, has made him one of the most influential figures in contemporary Italian fashion today.

For our winter #StyleTalk series we spoke to Alessandro and discovered that winter is not a season of compromise for him. Sure, thicker fabrics are replacing lighter ones, colors are getting deeper, layers are gaining weight, but the basic inspiration remains the same.
Keep reading to find out what his favorite winter is outfits, which perfume he has been using for 40 years, what is his favorite brand of loafers and which car he would dare to take on a trip around the world.

What is your favorite winter outfit?
Alessandro Squarzi: My favorite look is a thick turtleneck, made of cashmere or Shetland wool, combined with jeans and a nice blue cashmere coat over it. And of course, my Alden moccasins.
“"I wear them almost every day. I actually have four pairs of the same model and I never wear the same pair two days in a row. I wear them with almost everything." – Alessandro Squarzi

Alessandro started his watch collection with a Rolex Daytona 665 model, purchased new with box and papers, and over the years the collection has evolved into something more personal.
Currently, his favorite watch is the Patek Philippe 3008 in yellow gold, but he considers all of his watches special, because each one was once a dream that he eventually realized.

Where do you usually buy watches?
Alessandro Squarzi: When I'm looking for a new watch, I usually check out specialty stores, both physical and online. I haven't bought anything lately because nothing really catches my attention. For every type of watch, there's a dedicated seller that I trust.

However, when it comes to searching for vintage watches, Alessandro is part of Brutti Anatroccolia. project, the result of Carlo Biagioli's shared vision (The Vintageur) and Alessandra, two enthusiasts united by their love for neglected watches. The brand focuses on rediscovering and reinterpreting forgotten designs, placing authenticity and character above trends or luxury. You can view the currently available selection at Fortelina website.

Which pieces of clothing would you select from the new Fortela collection?
Alessandro Squarzi: For this season I would say 965 John Japan Denim Cimosato Tasche Regular Fit Ecrù, Buddy Giacca in Japan Denim Cimosato Indigo Rinse i Winston Double-breasted Coat made of wool. These are the pieces I'm actually wearing and relying on this winter.

Denim seems to be a key part of your wardrobe. Can you recommend any specific styles?
Alessandro Squarzi: I would say I'm obsessed with this fabric. I have a collection of Levi's pants from the 1940s to the 1960s that many would envy. Since these original pieces are very expensive, we at Fortela recreated exact editions of these garments by hand, and they sold out before Christmas. It was a masterpiece.

He travels a lot for inspiration and without a doubt the most fascinating vintage pieces are found in Japan, says Alessandro.

Is there a vintage item that you have kept for years?
“I really love my first Rolex (Daytona 6263) and my Native American bracelet from 1870.” – Alessandro Squarzi

Do you change your perfumes in the winter or do you stick to one recognizable scent all year round?
Alessandro Squarzi: In winter I stick to the same scent that I've been wearing for forty years. It's the only one I've truly stayed true to. I don't think a man should change his signature scent, it's part of him. I use Patchouli Santa Maria Novella.

What three things do you never leave the house without?
Alessandro Squarzi: Of course, my gray hoodie, jeans and loafers. In my pockets I carry a Goyard wallet and a silver Christoff pillbox.

If he could take one car anywhere in the world, it would be a Porsche 911, specially adapted for the trip. Although it is still a dream, he hopes to make it a reality one day.

Thank you to Mr. Squarzi for this opportunity, and special thanks to To Max Poglia and Cecilia!
